Otatara Pa Historic Reserve is a large reserve jointly managed by DoC and Ngati Paarau of Waiohiki Marae. It consists of two pa sites and is one of the largest and most significant pa in New Zealand. Geometria undertook a site survey to update the archaeological recording and produced interpretation for installations at the site. Over 250 archaeological features were identified and mapped using a combination of aerial photogrammetry, detailed orthography, total station and RTK-GPS survey. Damage mapping was also undertaken to ascertain the extent of degradation to the site and establish base datasets for ongoing monitoring and management of the site. Interpretive panels have been installed in the new waharoa (entrance) to the site.
